The Morning After
Well, it's about 8 am and Rangi and I did manage to get some sleep. We put Moxy in her area around 10:14 pm last night and she cried for about half an hour, which was rough on Rangi and I. I didn't actually put her in the crate because I knew the first night would be rough and I didn't want her to associate her crate with bad feelings. Instead, we blocked off the entryway to our house with her food and water dish, toys, toilet training pads and the crate. The crate has a soft bed in it along with treats and a hot water bottle. To be honest, I don't know if she used it or not because the treats weren't eaten.
Moxy woke up around 1 am and her whine had a sort of Doppler affect so I was afraid that she managed to get into another room. I went to check on her and she spotted me so I figured I could warm up her water bottle. I also cleaned up a mess she made on the floor rather than on the training pad. I should have known that would happen. Luckily it's a surface that's easy to clean. Moxy was so excited to see me and whined for about half an hour after I left. She was quite until 5:55.
We got up around 6:15 to a bit of a surprise. Moxy had escaped the entryway and was trapped in the living room/ kitchen/ dining area. I think that's why she was quite for so long. She really likes sleeping in front of the brown chair. I think that's her spot now. However, we still need to determine the best way to house train her at night. I'm going to go to the Complete Canine for crate training advice.
This morning Moxy was so excited to see Rangi and I. She didn't have any accidents after we woke up. Rangi took her for a walk to get the paper. I didn't go because I thought it would be a good bonding activity for the two of them. Rangi is trying to train Moxy to carry the paper up. The paper now has a few teeth marks and one small tear. Unfortunately, I didn't grab the camera fast enough to carry that part of their trip. I know the photo below is quite large but is shows a lot of neat features around our house. The front of our house faces west so the morning light on the valley looks beautiful on a sunny day. In the top right hand corner you can see part of the raised garden bed Rangi has been building. On the left side you can see the black plastic that covers our green wood. Some of the wood is from a pine tree Rangi cut down behind our house and some came from an apple tree that was blown down in a terrible spring storm. Of course, you can also see Rangi and Moxy enjoying each other’s company.
